Step 1:

For this guide on how to draw a broken heart, we will draw both sides of the heart while connecting it to the bottom of the heart. For this first step, we’ll start by drawing a curved line that will form the upper left side of the broken heart. Once you have that curved line, like in the reference image, you are ready for the next step.

Step 2:

We will continue to draw the left side of the heart for this part of your broken heart drawing. Using the curved line from the previous step, continue extending this line downward at an angle. You should draw this part as if you were drawing a complete, intact heart.

Step 3:

Now that you’ve drawn half of the broken heart design, you can repeat everything you did in the previous two steps. The right half of the heart will be almost identical to the left side. However, the top will extend slightly below the left side. If it looks like the reference image, there should be a little space between the ends of the lines. In the next steps, we will use this space to form the hole in the two heart pieces.

Step 4:

You can add straight lines toward the heart to draw your broken heart. This line should end near the bottom of the heart but should not touch the bottom. We’ll draw the other broken side of the heart in the next few steps, so let’s get started!

Step 5:

In this step, we will complete the part of our guide on drawing a broken heart! Once we have done these last details, we can move on to the coloring stage. Before that, you can draw the other broken edges of the heart. Starting from the top of the inner right side of the heart, draw straighter, jagged lines parallel to the inner lines. Thus, this line will connect to the bottom of the previous one.

Once you’ve done that, your broken heart drawing is complete and ready for the final step! However, before continuing, you can add a few final details. There are many ideas you could use to personalize this design. You can draw textures on the heart to make it look like it’s made of something like cracked porcelain. You can add text below the heart or draw shapes in the background. How are you going to finish this drawing before you start coloring it?
